Hi fellas, here is my latest effort into woodturning wizardry. With a 80% failure rate,it's proving a challenge.Feels great to keep one together.

The plain one I messed around with a texturing tool. The sphere not being perfect caused problems keeping the tool in contact,so it jumped around a bit.

The fully colored one I was messing around with some new markers, orange, fushia, purple, and green.

Red,white, and blue theme with the birch for white on the third.

Orange and black,my daughters middle shool colors for the 4th one.

Thanks fellas,I'm glad you like them.

Already had my first offer,my wife's aunt said "I'd buy one if I saw it at a garage sale for 50 cents, but I'm El Cheapo"

Said to myself:Wow! guess who's not getting something for christmas.

Detailed information on this and other stuff can be learned from the book Woodturning Wizardry. It almost takes you by the hand on everything involved into making one.

I use this type of spherical chuck to hold my work.I found it so much easier than tightning/loosening four screws like the chuck David uses in his book.

If you want to see what possibilities are possible then look here.He even has drawings to follow, but it hurts my brain trying.

Here is a video of another fantastic turner doing something a bit more advanced than a simple star.It gives you a good real time view of sphere based turning. It's in french,he's the first demonstrator
