I purchased this stained glass blank from Exotic because my sister loves red roses. I'm quite disappointed with it, though, because of the large gap in the seam. I was going to orient it so the rose is in back, but that means the ugly gap will be in front. Not sure what to do with it. The clip will hide part of the gap, but not all of it.

I do not think it is a gap, I believe it is an overlay. They chose not to be accurate with the size of the label casting and just layed the remains over. It does look ameturist at best. Not much you can do with it. It is so tough to match up patterns when wrapping around the tube and some patterns do not lend themselves to being good materials for that.

Talk to Ed about this and he will probably check his stock to see if others are the same. I'm sure he will have an answer or resolution to this issue.

I can't tell if it's a gap or an overlay. Regardless, it's too ugly to use on a pen.

Your top photos, look at the one at the right. In the left corner you can see the overlay. That thick line in the seam matches the border line in the left side. They trimmed the top line off so they did not even center the pattern on the tube. Everybody wants to be a blank maker. More money in selling blanks than selling pens.

Agree, the thick line is a border intended to be part of the design but it was not done carefully. It does not line up the way it should and is cut crooked. Reach out to Ed at Exotics. He specializes in Happy Customers.

I guess if it's not what you expected there's not much you can do. Just looking at the blank I would think that's a stained glass seam. I'd probably put the clip over the seam and call it good. I'm also assuming all the bubbles are on the surface.

In this case, the artist sends us FOUR pictures of each blank pattern, in order to show all sides of it. I believe he makes a very conscientious attempt NOT to hide the seam. But, when you receive the blank you can CERTAINLY see it better and we are FINE with having them returned!! This is the picture of that blank that is on Exotics, as supplied by Mike.

As MrDucks says, we specialize in happy customers!!! Send it back!!!

Thank you for the offer, Ed. The clip will actually cover more of the seam than I expected. I may go ahead and turn it and see how it turns out.

Well, I got it turned and polished. I'll assemble the pen today and see how it looks.

I think it came out real well and is a keeper. May have overblown the look in its rough stage but now seen finished it looks great. So to the maker of the blank which I believe is a member here my apologizes if any of my remarks were too harsh. Never judge a book by its cover as they say. Job well done all around. Also looks like it turned well with all those nice formed ribbons. That is a satisfying feeling when you see those. Chalk it up to a learning experience for us all.

It looks better than I expected. Except I got the clip out of line a little bit. I'll see if my son can twist it. Other than that, I'm happier with it than I thought I'd be. And I really like the copper plated hardware. I think it goes well with the red rose.
