Just kinda looking for an update by users of the Square app..

I know there have been a number of threads on CC's and Square,
it's just that after almost five years of using ProPay and a knuckle buster,
i finally had a CC 'declined' when i went to process it.
Amount wasn't all that great, but was kind of a wakeup call.

Would surely appreciate any feedback on Square and how you like it since it has now been out for some time.

In particular, I don't understand how you have the customers 'signature' on Square as i do when i use a knuckle buster and have them sign it. I had a customer only once call ProPay and contest a CC sale...all i had to do was make a copy of the customer signed CC form and fax to them, my money was released within a day (after the customer remembered what they had purchases)...

TIA,
Johnp

I have been using Square for about 1-1/2 years now. Had a few minor problems at first, all resolved.

The customers like the device. At the end of the transaction, the iphone screen has a line for the customer to "sign". They just use their finger to make the signature.
Need to make sure you have good cell coverage or wireless link at the sites.

Square sends an email for each transaction and you can download all transactions for your account from the web site. Price is right and the equipment is "FREE"!!

John, not trying to hijack the thread but I use ProPay and I stamp the customer copy of the CC slip with our business name and point this out to them so they will know when the debit or CC statement comes. They seem to appreciate this. I started this after having a customer contest a charge just like you had.

Mick,
I understand what you are saying, and agree...
HOWEVER, the CC receipt that I make sure they get...has my company name, phone number, and website on it...i had a metal stamp made so when i run the CC on the knucklebuster it prints it on the receipt.

With Square, not only do they sign, but you can take a picture of the item sold and include it in the email receipt (when they provide their email address). It will also record the location of the sale using GPS.

I've had my Square up reader for two months, but since 99% of my transactions are phone orders I haven't used it yet, I guess I should do a charge on my own card to check it out and see how it operates with my Android. A friend had square at a show we did last Christmas, and she still had to key in a couple of sales, something to do with the RFID in the card??? but their rates are super, I really don't like the 30.00 a month from my card company..

I've used the Square reader for a few shows I've done and other odds and ends that people have wanted made. This has been a great option. They have also recently (2 months or so) changed their policy so if you swipe a person's card the charges are only 2.75%. It's also nice that there are no monthly fees. This is great for me since I don't do very many charges per month. I've noticed that customers also like seeing the charge in front of them and signing with their finger. I know square works with both iOS and Android devices. I'm not sure if they have a build for Android tablets yet but the iPad version lets you actually make inventory items and pre-assign pictures to them. The iPhone build doesn't have an "add" function so you can only give them a grand total then write a description of what you sold them. Hopefully that changes soon, but overall the service is extremely reliable. Also you have to have an internet connection to use (wifi, 3g, or edge) and it only works in the USA. So don't try to make any charges outside of the US because you'll be sorely disappointed! Let me know if you have any other questions.
