I am new to penturning, but ready to try splice different woods together. I would be grateful for any advice on glues to use or techniques that will not show the glue seam once the pen is turned.
First, welcome to the group, Mickey! I use Titebond, but any wood glue should do. The trick to invisible glue seams is tight joints and you get those by jointing your edges, using a good saw blade, using a thickness sander, or any combination of these.
Hi Mickey,
I use a mitre saw for my joints, then sand them with some real fine sandpaper, on a piece of glass.
I use gel type CA glue. But as long as you use a good glue that is the main thing.
I also use a piece of angle iron with a piece of waxed paper in it to assemble the pieces. The glue won't stick so bad to the waxed paper. What does stick comes off pretty easy.
