I have changed lathes and the spindle size is different. Got a Beall chuck and a SuperNova 2 both for 1X8 threads. New lathe has 1 1/4X8 threads. Are the spindle adaptors from Penn State a good way to go? I know I can just buy a new insert for the Supernova 2. Can you just buy a new body for the collet chuck, or do you have to get the spindle adaptor?

Well, I asked a little too quick. I found you can buy just the chuck body but just the body is 20 bucks more than an adaptor from CSUSA. Any reason the adaptor from them is 40 bucks more than one from PSI?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same exact issue last month with these thread sizes and decided to sell the Beall here on IAP and just buy the right sized one. I was fearful of the added runout on the beall and just wanted to not be chasing my tail in the future. The delta between selling the old and buying the new was only about $20..... for that cost, I was happy to just buy a new one. As for the Chuck adaptor, you can just buy the right one for again another $20 or so. Just dont try to trade your old 1x8 adaptor on the IAP as I have had one up for a while and still hope someone is willing to trade for some blanks :-)

All in all about $40 solved both my problems with the nova and Beall.
