I disagree with the Oak guesses because I don't see any medullary rays so maybe Chestnut. Whatever is growing in the region now would be a good place to start. - I had the same question about oak -

I am hoping to find out more!So basically Keith, you have a seven hundred or more years old piece of wood, that needs to be stabilized. And that could have a very interesting story behind it, I hope you do some research on it to get as much info about it as possible.

Got up to about 80 and still had a couple inches on the right side to go . Didn`t have screen magnification set high enough .Thanks for that info! Did you count the rings?!
