My son went hunting in Spain last year and dug this wood out of a Spanish ruin that was supposed to be originally built in 1300s - attacked and destroyed in 1500s - any way to id this wood? Any help would be appreciated! 5E4B5436-F6FE-436D-ADB2-0F5E5C40085E.jpeg738EE178-6ADE-4F0A-8CA1-C33DB376B39B.jpeg

Looks like Oak to me. I've had shipwreck wood that looks a lot like that. Great tight grain. Cool find!

So basically Keith, you have a seven hundred or more years old piece of wood, that needs to be stabilized. And that could have a very interesting story behind it, I hope you do some research on it to get as much info about it as possible.

I am hoping to find out more!

Definitely oak , over a hundred years of growth in that piece . Extremely long rays . N American white oaks have long rays , but I`ve never seen any that long . Probably felled within 5 or 10 miles of where your son found it . A Spanish forestry website might get you closer to the actual species .
