This is from Spanish oak - the tree was well over 100 years old, was pulled out of some ruins west of Morella castle rumored destroyed in a battle in the 1500s- sharp tools, light cuts - wood was not stabilized - treated it very tenderly! Black titanium Statesman.

Absolutely beautiful Keith! The blank is very appealing, and I love the custom finial - these should be done more often, adds a very nice element.

I've been wanting to try making a few custom finials, but have no idea how to go about doing so. Are there any articles you would recommend?

Thank you Mark - I agree with your comments on the finial - that seems to be an item that doesn't get much attention any more!
