This time I purposely went a little deep and kept a flatter bottom. I was really tempted to change it a bit and put a walnut lid on it. But I don't have any dry walnut. So, the decision became moot.

How thick are the sides?

I never really measure the thickness... just do my best to make it uniform. I tend to go with what I think looks right. ... I just measured... about 1/2" thick.
