I remember someone here doing the new Space Shuttle pen kits and can not find it in the search mode. Not sure why. But has anyone done these kits and if so what is your opinion?? I heard the clip is fragile. I may just do it as a desk pen and make some fancy pen stand for it. Have a request for something space oriented. I hate doing decals. Thanks in advance.

I made one back in February. No issues with the clip, but I don't carry it, I display it. It's a heavy pen, and because of the shuttle, it's very top heavy. Not comfortable to write with. The pen overall is 1.9 oz, and just the cap is 1.1 oz. In spite of all that, it's a cool pen with some neat details. The blank I used is Flaming Forge.

Be cool to see what you come up with for a stand!

Thank you Jim for showing yours. Not sure that was the one I remembered but it looks great. I know it is a gadget pen but at times they just fit the bill and this case the person is a space nut. So want to do a pen for them. I still have a couple others I need to complete. I owe my brother one that I have been meaning to do for a few years. He has a specific want too. My sister will be retiring from a law office next year and I would like to come up with a themed pen for her too.

Penn State also has a Moon pen that may fit the bill and looks less top heavy. I have not done one of these so I am just speculating.

Thanks I did look at that but that is one of those that you need to take a closer look at when looking at the clip. With the shuttle you see it right away.

Awesome combination of the blank and the shuttle pen kit. It looks really cool, like it is taking off.

I've made Moon pens, too. I really like them. The first blank is Moon Sugar. The second is unknown, but I think it's bubinga.

I turned this pen today and assembled it but I can't seem to find any way retract the ink back into the pen. The instructions Say it features a twist mechanism But I've been unable to work it. Perhaps i'm misunderstanding this. Any help is appreciated. This is a shuttle rollerball pen kit from woodturningz.com

I've sold 6 Shuttles ...so far. I have one in inventory now and another commissioned. The customer mentioned two colors for the blank, so I did both and am waiting for him to choose. Then I'll assemble and that wil be 7 sold! I'll put he other blank on another Shuttle kit I have.

I use the space man stand to display, it gets attention also.

Yes, they will break! But Wood Turningz replaced it. It may have been a bad batch as it's the only one I've had trouble with. Some day I'll try to reattach it.

You're right, it does say it has a twist mechanism, but that's a mistake. It's a twist cap rollerball pen. The cap threads onto the front or the back (posts) of the pen.
