Hey! I'm new around these parts and tried the search but with no luck. Is there a source for buying piston mechanisms (not convertors)? I'm having the hardest time finding them, especially anything with a gold piston band. Thanks!

I don't remember seeing a source for pistons since Richard Greenwald retired. I have seen pens made by people who machined their own piston mechanisms. I considered buying a few cheap piston filler pens online and breaking them up for parts (same for vacuum fill plungers) and I'd do it if a customer requested that type of pen. Hasn't happened so far though.

Unfortunately, I have checked all of the sources I can find by searching online - no luck. Was hoping there was a secret supplier you all might know who isn't online. Oh well. I'll go the route of harvesting from a Chinese made pen.

I ordered some from China (Alibaba) a while back that were difficult to work with and obviously did not go through any type of quality control. There was a guy on Instagram out of the UK, William Shakour, I believe he is/was Titan Pens. A couple of years ago, he was selling 3D-printed piston units (picture below) that he uses on his 3D-printed pens. You could contact him on Instagram to see if he is still selling them.

Several other 3D printable piston filler designs are available online that you could try to make yourself if you have access to a 3D printer.

I have a filament 3D printer and would be concerned about the texture of the parts being able to seal fully. Almost everything I have printed has some texture from the printing process. I would think it might need a resin based 3D printer to be successful as they build up the materials differently and don't get the rougher texture on the surface - but I think I might give it a try.
