While sanding this cap last night I ran out of bottled water in the workshop and didn't want to traverse the long journey across my patio to the kitchen. I did however spot a half can of Diet Mt. Dew that I didn't finish earlier. I thought, "well, it's mostly water, I don't really want to stop mid way through, and what's the worst that could happen?"

I was not expecting what happened next, and thought that I would most certainly have to break, go inside, probably get distracted and have to finish the part later.

I usually use bottled water with a drop of dish soap and some dishwasher rinse aid. I forgot to even add either of those in and continued to the next grit using my 3M sanding pads. What I saw before me was truly amazing. The resin of this cap got shinier than I have ever achieved before from sanding. I hadn't even used Micro Mesh, Zona Paper or Magic Juice… I don't even think I will need to buff it!

This is going to be a huge time saver and I am using Diet Dew from here on out! Hopefully my customers like the fresh citrus scent!

Happy April everyone!

Not being a drinker of diet anything I would never have discovered something like that. Does it work with regular Dew?
I think the sugar might gunk up the sandpaper or get sticky. I can't have too much sugar though so I haven't tried it. I would just make sure to brush them with toothpaste after, floss the threads and use mouthwash for the last zona paper.

Here I was thinking I remembered you from the MPG last year and you were a nice guy. No sign of that mile wide sarcastic streak
I've never been to the MPG! Would love to go through. Definitely have a sarcastic streak and maybe a weird sense of humor, but I try to put out more light into the world than darkness. Everyone I have met so far in the pen community has been awesome!

If you've not gone to the MPG I would whole heartedly recommend going. It's an amazing couple of days and the amount of learning you can do is just mind boggling.

Honestly, you should sign up and go. I've gone the last three years and loved it. I can't make it this year due to a family commitment or I'd be there.
