I am in Dallas this weekend supervising yet another move by my 25 yr
old college graduate accountant daughter. Will this be the last
move? Oh well, on with my story. On Emily's desk was a redoak burl
euro made by me. It was one of the first 17 pens I made one cold
bleek November for Christmas presents. After those 17 initial pens I
was hooked. And this pen made me think, "Could I have possibly made
this pen?" Friction polish...Hut Crystal Coat...Now, the reason I
switched to CA for my finish of choice is apparent. I know that pen
has been on Emily's desk for the last 3 years and it looked really
bad, especially when I sat my afzelia FP, with its nice shinny deep
CA finish, on the desk top next to it. Yep! the reason I stopped
using friction polish was now quite apparent. And, I thought I had
that friction polishing down pat...multiple coats....lots of
heat/friction...nice and shinny for the moment.
"But the pen I've been carrying for two years now looks as good as
it did when I first made it", I've heard many of you say. I just
can't believe it. Not now, after seeing what I just saw
tonight...side by side...on Emily's desk top.
I type type this as food for thought. I too once considered friction
polish the ultimate finish. I don't intend to step on anyone's toes
and any similarity to a real person is simply coincidence.
Do a good turn daily!
