I thought someone might be interested to see some pics of some timber I cut up recently, its common name is Red Beech, aka Dillenia Alata.Dillenia alata - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There seems to be very little useful information on the internet about this tree and its timber.

My Grandfather used a lot of this stuff to build furniture for his house, my Mother still has most of it. It is lovely timber to work with.

Brad, that is some very nice wood. Love the grain. Would make great bowls and pen blanks. Have you turned much of it?

Yes, very speccy wood. I havent used much of what I have yet, turned a few pens is about all. I think I have a photo on my home computer of a pen, will post it here tonight if I can find it.

I was approached by a toolmaker here in Australia who found out I had some of this timber, if he could get some to make a marking guage out of some.
I did a deal with him, I gave him some of the timber, and he is making me a marking guage in return.
