Some Gators are harder than others

Turned two gators this morning and the second one tried to give me fits. I've done at least 20-25 gator pens in the last year and never had one that was punky soft in the center. Had to remove most of the soft material and back fill with a combination of crushed turquoise and black powdercoat powder in the cap of the second set of photos. As always all coments welcome, but most of all thanks for looking.

Alligator jaw bone = 'gator'. Wonderful turning material but 'stinks' to the high heavens when turned.

I've turned antler so I can imagine the smell.

Where does one obtain gator jaw? Must have been a strange moment when someone said, "hey, what the hell, lets turn some gator jawbone into a..."
