I knew some of the guys I know would love some .50 BMG pens so I made a few and have had tons of interest in them.

After seeing the .50 BMG pens a buddy asked if I'd be interested in some 20mm brass from the F-22s.

So I sat down with some 1 1/8" birch dowel, a 1:1 image of the round and some calipers. After a bit of turning I had the shape nailed down so I gave it a CA finish to smooth and harden the projectile, sanded it to 1500 with micro mesh, then went back with some 400 grit to rough it up for primer. Sprayed it with some self-etching primer and that's where I'm at right now. When I get the proper colors for painting the PGU-28A/B Semi Armor Piercing High Explosive Incendiary (SAPHEI) round I'll go with those colors instead of the basic blue that would be on the PGU-27A/B - which is what this is. A training round.

.50 BMG on left, 20mm on right. The 20mm is quite the conversation piece.

I'm gonna need a bigger hand!!!

Yeah, the 20mm is 6 1/2" long and the brass is just over 1 1/8" diameter.

There's actually a couple of different ways I'm going to do these. Just need to get my hands on more brass.

I can build them like a cigar pen where it's all one piece or just use the brass as a stand. Then the actual pen would consist of the projectile with the transmission and such that would rest inside the brass enclosed in wood or acrylic.

I'm really looking forward to getting more brass.

Wow the 20 Mike Mike came out great, fit is spot on. I guess you could chance the color of the tip for different kind of rounds.

Thanks, guys.

I didn't even notice the coffee cup in the background. Oops. Fisticup, I think it's called. Can be found on Amazon.

The .50 BMG isn't bad to use. Weight and everything is fine, but the 20mm is tail heavy so it's mostly a desk/conversation piece.

Dan, that's the plan - change the paint color for various types of rounds.
