Soap in Water

Someone was telling me when they wet sand with Micromesh, they put some soap in the water. Does that work and help keep the micromesh in better shape/cleaner/ect?

That's an old trick used when you color sand (wet sand ) cars after painting. The soap acts as a lubricant in the water. I use a couple of drops of dish soap in my water when I wet sand my CA finishes. Has something to do with reducing the surface tension of the water. Can't really say that the pads last any longer but I find the really fine pads don't heat up as bad.
 
As I recall watching Bill Nye the Science Guy with my sons, the Detergent in soap breaks the surface tension of water. "It makes water wetter."

Yes I use this, and I find it works great. I even use this concoction to spray in my blanks when I drill out Acrylic and Tru-stone.

Couple of drops in a 12oz sprayer.

i even knew the wetter water stuff if you would have asked.
 
I also use a dish washed detergent & water solution (low concentration) in my spray bottle for drilling PR blanks and sanding CA or PR. Seams to not hurt anything.
