I found a piece of mesquite branch that had been attacked by mistletoe. It was a 1 1/2 inch branch that had a 5" diameter growth on it. When I cut it open, it LOOKS like burl, but technically isn't burl. The grain swirls and curls like burl. I don't know what to call it. I will post a pic tomorrow when I have natural light. (Too lazy to get out the light box.)

Wow! I've seen several limbs with bulges where mistletoe was growing. After seeing that gorgeous pen you can bet the next time I see some it will be in my hand. Thanks for the picture and information.
