While packing up at work to go home today, I have a bad realization- the pen blanks I had brought to work to show some people were gone.

I remember packing up a bit ago, and thinking that I didn't have a bag to bring them home with me, and I was running late and half way out the door. Thinking "no one's going to steal pen blanks". Not only that, but I've left pens at my desk before as well without them ever being stolen. I work in a coporate office, so I wouldn't imagine the people that work there would steal anything (well, other than people's lunches). Now, about a week later (I've been VERY busy in and out of work, I completely forgot about them), I realized that they're gone! And I finally finished a long remodel project, and the next thing was to finish my garage and get the shop set up (I've been moving, and my current shop is a mess and is barely safe to walk around in).

I was getting geared up to start turning again, and really do some nice stuff with the high end blanks I got. Now I guess I'll just make due for now and wait to sell a few pens before buying everything over again!

OK, just had to vent. Thing is- who steals pen blanks??? As neat as they are, I mean come on!!! :at-wits-end:

OK, now I'm really done.

Dang! you sure they aren't somewhere? I was CERTAIN someone stole something off my desk only to find it days later, already at home. I still (years later) don't know how it made it home.

of course there also was the person who kept stealing my lunch out of the fridge.... there's always someone hanging around to ruin your day.

bummer on the loss though. I hope they are found (or returned).

who steals pen blanks?:frown:

If they were stolen that is too bad. I would look around the house, underneath the seat of your car and maybe in your coat pockets, etc. Hope that you find them somewhere.

Well there were about a dozen of them, so it's not as if there's just one or two easily hidden.

I thought about the car, but sadly I just cleaned it today for a roadtrip. I checked all around the house, and I couldn't find them (it's a small house), and at work I checked all my drawers 3 times each. I'll re-check the garage on Monday when I get back in town from a trip to Chicago this weekend, but I'm 97.5% certain I never brought them home.... I agree- I hope I'm wrong.

Who did you show them to?? Ask them if they saw them?? Tell them there is a reward of a pen for finding them:smile: I bet you misplaced them. Unless someone else is a pen turner what are they going to do with them unless they wind up on ebay:biggrin: What were they?? May have to go check ebay.

Folks will steal anything, when I was a firefighter we had our defibulator stolen from the fire engine whilst at an incident, the local police later found it in a field no longer usable and all the attachments missing.

We had to run for a full fortnight until a replacement arrived, little B`s!

Well, I can't tell you how many times I was missing something only to have it show up in the most unlikely of spots (where I put it for some reason). Hope they turn up.

well if they were pilfered that person will one day get their dues. I am a firm believer in karma. That being said, what kind were they? I have a ton and I mean A TON of blanks I will never get to and would be happy to send some your way to hopefully get you back on track. Just let me know you can pm me if you want. Have a safe trip

That is rotten. They probably grew legs and wandered off with the unscrupulous party.
I'm like some others who have commented..what goes around, comes around.

I'll offer to send you some too. my turning time is near zero lately :) pm me if you want
to discuss, it's just an offer.

The cleaning crew doesn't clean desks, they just empty the trash bins. I'll do a thourough check of the garage on Monday, but if they're not there they are definitely gone...

As far as needing blanks to freplace them, that's fine. I have PLENTY of blanks. What's frustrating is that these were my best blanks, and they're $. I had 2 cactus blanks (the first I've gotten), casin, ebonite, ramon stump, black mangrove, a small M3 blank, and several PR princess blanks. So yeah, that's why it's so frustrating.... I was really psyched to use them for my upcoming show. Now maybe the show will help pay to replace them...

But who knows, I'll tear apart my garage Monday...

Figured I'd follow up. Looked in the garage and my old basement shop- no go. I'm back at work, and I asked around and no one's seen them.

I'm ready to say 100% that they were stolen. About $140 worth of blanks, all told (only about a dozen or so blanks).

Just maybe someone realized what they were and put them in a safe place till they saw you again...or put out an email.....dam you thieves....give them back...I know who you are hahahahaha

Did you happen to wear a jacket one day? Put them in the pockets and haven't had that jacket (or sport coat) on, since then?

Travis, you are working yourself up on this. First of all if no one around you is a penturner then there would be of no use to them unless someone knows another penturner they can give your blanks to. But, I think you lay off this for awhile and it may turn out in a most unthinkable place. the more you dwell over it the more frustrated you're gonna get, plus you are too young and perhaps you will lose or misplace many more valuables in your life until you get to some of our ages. But, if you are positive then you will get over this loss sooner than later. And, if anyone took them like you said perhaps they had more need for them than you did, and if that's the case God will replace something more important for you down the road.
I hope you find them and the story would have a better ending for you.

That really sucks man. Especially for the type of blanks they were. My desk at work is in a main area, and I always make sure I put my PITH pen I use daily away before I leave. When I bring in blanks to show other people, I keep them in a bag and put them in a draw all the time. Might not make much sense, but sometimes people take anything they can get their hands on. So sorry to hear about this whole incident. Keep us posted!
