Because of the snowstorm that began about 11 PM last night and is continuing through today until Midnight this evening, our university closed down - as did all schools in th area.[:p]

I'm planning to do some turning and general woodworking today!:D

12 inches of snow - yowza![:p][:p]

The storm moved too far south for me Roger. Enough to making traffic a real pain, but not enough to keep us home. Hope you have fun.

I'm starting up on birdhouses again. I sold 10 a week ago and my inventory is dwindling and all the best ones are gone. I've got some Desert Ironwood, Yellowheart, Purpleheart, Quilted Maple, Mahogony, Spalted Pecan, Segmented Juniper and a few others though the Drilling and Coring stage. Boy the new band saw and drill press come in handy for all that.

Wow that's alot of the white stuff, brrrrrrrr[:(] It's VERY windy here today. I have cut my SIL's hair and straightened the house so I guess I'll hang here at the site[^]

We've gotten a few inches here today so far and the heavy stuff is supposed to start in the next few hours. Most schools that have evening anything are all closed and most people are asking about snow days at the office since they are forecasting so much. (10-15" here in the next 24)

I've been building my stock of extra nice woods - cocobolo of course, ebony, amboyna burl, ambrosia maple, tasmanian myrtle burl, teak, bleeding box elder, and some really nice other woods I can't recall right now. I'm hoping to create birdhouses this summer.

Best,
Roger Garrett

Some places got 10 feet of snow I heard, we can't even get 1 inch around here (which would surely send us home :)

On another note, I would be interested in seeing some of your birdhouses :)
Are they real life size birdhouses, or like ornaments..??

Snow? Is that the white stuff that falls from the sky?? Macon doesn't own a snowplow. On the other hand, kids around here never get to experience the thrill of waking up in the morning only to find out that school has been canceled. I miss those days ...... more or less ... mostly less. [:)]

Well, it's coming down a lot more now. We have to have at least 4 or 5" so far with the worst expected later. I'm heading out about an hour or so early to get home on time.

Kennesaw doesn't get much snow/ice anymore. The last good snow we had was in 1993. Now all we get is the weatherman telling us we are getting ice/snow/sleet and everyone freaks out and cleans out the supermarket.

I like being in the shop after it snows. It can still be cold outside and the shop seems to be easier to heat. Snow insulates the roof, I guess. :)

I was one of the fortunate few that made a connection through O'Hare (Chicago) airport today. My flight from Milwaukee arrived in O'Hare a few minutes early(!) and the flight to Louisville, KY left about an hour late, but we 'hopped' over the worst of the snow and here I am.

SNOW!!! YEAAAAAAAaaaaaa!

A heatwave begins!!!

(It was minus 35 windchill last week, below zero actual temp - the warm snow feels great!!!)

12 degrees, 'bout a foot of the white crud on the ground, and more coming down, actually a stiff wind making it go by horizontily. Glad two weeks from today I will be at Pine Island,Fla., fishing in the warmth.

Mr. Metcalf,

Didn't we recently discuss seeing life from two sides and determining which way we would interpret things???

Things is LOOKIN" UP!!!!! But I DID forget about that 25mph wind off the lake! Keeps the snow from PILING UP anywhere!!!. Also makes the roads like glass, leading to great entertainment value, watching the little cars spin and slide, from inside my 3500 pound Durango!!

True but you hear a loud collective whine when the temperature drops below 60 degrees.

I live about 60 miles further along the coast from James (jjenk02). Had some rain today, and then some sun as usual. Maybe mid 60's. Although in honesty we are getting prepared for a major winter push, maybe even some frost later in the week!

Of course during hurricane season I wish I was with some of you but for right now I have no weather complaints![8D]

Yesterday they were calling to 12" of snow here. Now there calling for 3-6" of ICE. I much rather have the snow. And Yes the shop heats up real fast when there's snow on the roof.

Amen on the Hurricanes, I've had to replace my roof 3 times in the past 10 years due to hurricanes...

Believe or not I have the same roof I put on when I built the house 25 years ago, part of the reason I can't find a new insurance company. Still doesn't leak anywhere but is looking rough in places. Decided this time to hire someone, they are actually coming out tomorrow for a bid.

I have a 5 hp snow thrower - 2 stage - and I ended up spending about 4 hours outside last night. The neighbors may now get out of their driveways. Lots of drifting, and the plow came down our street at 11 PM.

The dogs still need some shoveling before they will be happy.

School is open today at 12 Noon. Everyone else is closed for the day.

Best,

We got at least a foot just south of Cleveland. Drifting is bad as I use the snowblower and I can only blow it one way as it blows back in your face anyway else. Had a tough time just getting out of the house this morning as the snow drift was blocking my side door. Snowing right now still and I'll be heading back out to help the neighbors once I get something to eat and drink. I've already been out for 2 hours this morning and this was after I did my complete drive and walk last night when i got home from work. (10.5hp 2 stage with a 30" path snowblower)

Well, I got off early and had an extra 25 minutes on the road getting home, but then I had to shovel. I had a little time to work in the shop, but not much. I learned something new yesterday, the fraise Cul Du Sac can be loosely translated in to english as "Last to be plowed".

here in central CT we were expecting 5 to 10 inches of snow, it is now 3 to 4 inches of sleet .... I much prefer the snow... we have about 4 inches of it on the ground now and still coming down but not as hard as earlier this morning.

Well we got hit last night in Ontario. I am guesssing between 6 and 8 inches. Ended up with some drifts around my doors and garage that were closing in on 3 feet deep so this morning I got out there at 5:30 with my single stage 1 manpower shovel [:D] and shovelled for an hour before work and will finish up when I get home tonight. As of lunch the snowplow hadn't been down the street which has a couple of 2 foot drifts across it but I did notice that the dead end street at the end of mine is completely plowed.[B)]

In Racine, that tells you where your ALDERMAN lives!!! Sorry, I don't know the Canadian equivalent (local representative to city council).

We only got 8" here, but it was followed by 2" of sleet and freezing rain, then another inch or so of snow. All the schools have been closed for the last two days. I got out for a bit today and the roads are pretty nasty. It got all the way up to 18 degrees today (with the wind chill at 0). We are expecting a wind chill of 20 below in the morning and have snow blowing into drifts on roads, etc. Man, I hate winter!

Just THINK how bad it would be if it weren't for GLOBAL WARMING!!!

Ed, it wouldn't be as bad because it wouldn't have been so warm earlier in the season (warmest dec on record in many places)and we would be getting hit with winds from the north pushing all this crap south of where it really hit. I don't believe the temps change that much, but the weather patterns sure do get changed.
