I'm thinking of trying my hand at casting a snakeskin. I've done a lot of reading in our archives. But, one question remains unanswered:

Does the skin need to be tanned before casting?

If it does need tanned, what's the best process to follow?

Will a snakeskin treated with borax work?

Thanks for the advice. I have a friend out in the backyard who may not like what's about to happen to him. If you get my drift.

Hi Al,

Does the skin need to be tanned before casting?
Yes, and soft tanned is the best. The chemistry used is important. I have purchased skins and when cast they turn dark and lose the design patterns.
If it does need tanned, what's the best process to follow?
Email me and I will send you the instructions I use which were given to me by guy from whom I once purchased skins.

Will a snakeskin treated with borax work?
This process uses borax.

Do a good turn daily!
Don
