Hi guys
One of my colleagues at work keeps snakes and i would like to make him a pen froim a snake skin blank. In dont know much about these but i know enough to know that there are many snake skins to choose from lol..

Does anyone have a blank or two of a skin which is generally highly desirable, due to beautiful markings etc?

any tips with these would also be welcomed having never turned one.

TO ME (Opinion), the copperhead makes the most noticeable and attractive pen (in snakes). They are very hard to come by and difficult to cast. Then, I suggest you turn several alumilite or clear PR blanks BEFORE you embark on this masterpiece---turning it DOES take some technique.

But a successfully done pen is GREAT!

Ball python makes a particularly attractive pen as well, I have three 2nd quality blanks for sierras. They're the best place to start in snakeskins if you're a beginner. They are cheaper than 1st quality because of one or two tiny bubbles on the skin or a small divit on either end (which can be fixed with a dab of CA before squaring)

shoot me a PM if you're interested

If your friend has kept some of the shed skins from his own snakes they can be cast on to a pen tube and might have more meaning to him. The finished pen will lack the colours of a skin from a killed snake but are much more unique. There is a guy on the Aussie site that has done some, including ones with the head on. Small snake. ;)
