I jacked up a nice blank by cutting it off and got into the tube. When I squared the blank off I went ahead and turned it, but when I put it together the refill would not retract all the way in. I used a small piece of brass to "fix" the issue. I turned it to fit on the metal lathe and made it a little longer. I didn't want to mess the blank up. I got it from Rockler. The blank is a Black Ash Burl.
The Vertex pen is a home made segment from a pile of cutoffs that I collected. The wood is died curly maple. The silver inlay material is aluminum flashing from the Depot. It was glued with thick ca and took an hour or so to make. The segments are not perfect but I like the overall results. The segments that have different angles are the hard part, and not becoming one with your work.
Hope you enjoy, Russell
