The threaded piece that holds the cap on Baron and Tycoon pens are black. I just don't like how this looks with the gold components. Anyone have ideas for how to get rid of the black plating? Torch it off? Soak it in something?

Are you sure it is black "plating" ?
If it were paint, you might stand a chance of soaking it off. . I'd think of using acetone ... pretty nasty stuff though. . Don't try it yet.
But if it is a plating, your chances are slim.

Now, could it be a black plastic ring ?

Sorry, I am just exploring ideas because I am not familiar with the Baron or Tycoon.

To get metal threads you'll have to switch to the Jr Gent pen from Daycom.

I can't help you, but I'll say that's one of the 2 main reasons I prefer non-postable kits. The other is simply because I prefer not to post the cap, I have small hands and it throws the balance way out of whack for me.

Jr Retro is nice too with no black. I also do a lot of Jr George in the antique brass and antique silver plates--they don't sell as well, but i like them!!

My experience with the Baron over time of usage: the black coating wears out on top of the threads to gold on a gold kit. I think it is a plastic coating.
