I was given a chunk of amboyna burl as a gift. The guy actually gave me a lot of wood, nice!
After cutting it into 3/4" square pieces there was quite a bit of 1/2" pieces left. A Sierra pen is just under 1/2" so I made a couple of Saturn blanks and used pieces to attempt drilling for Sierras on the lathe. Here are the results; straight through and even! The turned Sierra, an unturned, tubed blank and the original stock is shown. Whew!
PS - I ended up with a bag of the stuff. Usually a blank of amboyna burl with sapwood runs close to $20 each so I buy it rarely.
