Here is a small mesquite plate I recently completed. It is 6" diameter and about 3/16" thick at the thickest part! I wanted to see how thin I could get it without blowing up!

Does anyone see the long haired woman in the top of the top photo? :)

I love finding wood sprites.

Wonderful plate Curtis. What kind of finish is it?

Thanks everyone.

Mike, the finish is numerous coats of Deft High Gloss lacquer and is actually MUCH glossier than the photo depicts.

I do see the woman now that you mention it!

Hey Curtis .... 3/16 "? I'd say you were pushing the envelope. That's a real rush when you've got that piece of wood on the lathe ....... "should I take it down a little more?" "Maybe one more swipe with the chisel!"

Kind of like that old Seinfeld episode with Kramer and the car salesman .... they know the fuel gauge is on empty but at the last second they drive past the exit .... screaming.

And yes ..... I see her with her long hair.

That's cool.

Nice job. Thin work is a real accomplisment. Usually I have to be mad at the piece of wood because it keeps warping on the lathe before I get intense enough to go for thin.
