Small Bubinga goblet

I was scrolling through some old photos and came across these photos of a small bubinga goblet I made many years ago ( probably like 2008 maybe ).
It was something to try at the time . Photos are not the best but you can get the idea I suppose. The base could have been a bit larger .

It was actually much easier turning than this 15 inch tall one out of aspen. ( also many moons ago )

Excellent!!
What on earth is the method of producing something so delicate as this?
Why doesn't it snap?
I would love to try turning one myself, but I am sure I need further info before attempting it.
