I'm not a fan of slimline pens. I won't say I hate them, but I definitely dislike them. A good friend of mine, though, wanted a slim pen. I was going to buck it up and make a slimline pen for her, until I saw these kits at Woodcraft. It's called a Slim Style Hybrid, in satin gold. The wood is zebrawood, and the finish is Watco Danish oil. I must say, as far as slim pens go, this is probably my favorite. I think she'll really like it.

This all started when Olga and I went to Rockler, and she found this chunk of zebrawood in the cut-off bin that she really liked. She wanted me to make a letter opener for her, and then she also wanted a slimline pen. Unfortunately, she didn't like any of the slimline kits they had, she said it had to be satin gold. So finding the satin gold Slim Hybrid was destiny! Oh, and the chunk of zebra was only $2.50!

I've made a couple of those kits from Woodcraft and was very surprised each time at the feel of the pen while writing with it. It's landed as one of my favorite kits as a result.
I've only made them (3 to date) with acrylics... but I think I came around, I like your zebrawood version a lot!

It turned out (no pun intended!) much nicer than I expected. I can't wait to give it to Olga! I did buy two kits, I'll make the second one with acrylic.

I am so glad you showed this pen, Jim. .. It is truly a BEAUTY !!

When I saw "slim" in the title of your thread I was going to skip it.
But then I thought ... "Oh well, the thread is by Jim, and Jim's work always sparks my interest."

So I opened the thread and read it and I am glad I did.

This pen kit could be a shot of "new life" for the slimline.

I want to buy some of those kits now !!!

But I cannot find it on the Rockler website by the name given above in the OP. . Please check, Jim.

Oh Mal. You didn't read the post carefully. The wood is from Rockler, the pen kit is from Woodcraft. Silly old man. :p

And I agree with you, this has got to be the nicest slim pen I've ever made.
