I rotated the clip (Flat Top American Twist Ballpoint) to reveal the best grain and in doing so, it created slight scratches/ring around the cocobolo top barrel. Hardly noticeable, but I see it .

Any suggestions on how to remove? Perhaps some 0000 steel wool

FYI - pen is finished with MM and then woodturners finish applied.

Thanks,
Mordi

If the clip was loose enough that you could rotate it , it will continue to rotate with use , so I would dis-assemble the cap , refinish with whatever MM it takes to remove the scratches , then re-assemble , using red or blue Loctite on the finial insert and under the clip ring to prevent rotation .

Thanks to all that responded. I appreciate all your comments - especially the drinking star idea - that one is a keeper

I had to go down all the way to 320g to get the scratches out, but I got them all out. I also had a small dent in the cap and I fixed that applying a damp cloth and a warm iron. Sanded my way back up again through the various grits and then MM. Reapplied Woodturners finish and it is as good as new
