I have not been able to rurn since November. Time to try again. I want to try a skew with a site recomendation of a site to learn how to use 1. I have a 1/4 inch skew but have never tried it.

As for skew - 1/4" is going to be VERY tough to handle for a beginner (are you sure its not a 1/2"? I've never seen a 1/4, even in the "pen tools"). I have several skews, but my favorite is a cheap ($15) Benjamin's Best 3/4" Oval skew. (similar in shape to the one in the above video, but I can't tell if the one in the video is 3/4 or 1".
You can get the skew I have at PSI or a reseller (picked up mine from woodturningz).

Also, in the video he said it's a 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" chisel.

One of my skews is the same one Dean mentioned and I really like it. But my frustration with my flat skews went away when I watched a few of Cap'n Eddie's videos and "softened" the sharp edges of the flat skews. They are my go to tools for much of what I do and easing the edges made a huge difference.

I went to PSI and all they offer is a 1/2" skew. Is that large enough for a beginner with a skew? My other tools woork fine.

my 3/4" skew is model LX030 at PSI. I'd recommend going bigger than 1/2".
Too small, and you're more likely to catch.

Larger the better in the chisel world. You can always change angle and skew but can't change clatter and bounce back.

While I've got a smaller skew, I started with a Chinese 1" skew (still use it) and eventually got a Sorby oval 1" skew. These videos (combined with Ed's) helped me quite a bit.

I ordered the PSI 3/4" skew. It was $20. I asked them if they carry a 1". Thanks everyone for your help.

Went out and viewed the 2 videos. Ed's was much easier to follow. Thanks Ed!
