So I started playing with the casting supplies I won last weekend at the Midwest Penturner's Gathering (Thanks again @JohnU).

I had to start with the sweetgum pods. They are so cool looking all by themselves. They look like wicked fossils cast in Alumilite.

There were numerous small voids (from bubbles in the resin). I must have been a bit slow to get them into the pressure pot before the resin thickened.

I chose a Sirocco kit for the pen. It turned out pretty well. No pun intended. I made 6 blanks in a block mold, and used half of one for the Sirocco pen.

I still have 5 of these blanks - If anyone would like to trade a couple of these blanks for a couple of yours, let me know.

Thanks!

Looks great Kevin! Congrats on a successful pour! It's not uncommon for sweet gum pods to have small holes and air pockets along them. Sometimes the resin just can't get that deep in the holes. A little ca while finishing does the trick. You did good!!!
