The date is finally here. We leave tomorrow morning for a backpacking trip to Philmont Scout Ranch. Months of training and dieting to meet the maximum weight tables have all come down to this! We have seventy miles of trail at altitudes up to 12,500 feet awaiting our band of 8 Scouts and 4 adults.

If I can stand one more ounce of weight in my pack, I'll try to bring back at least one pen blank

Wish us luck and say a prayer for our safe return!

YIS,

I always wanted to do Philmont. Have a great time. And you should have plenty of weight left by the end of the trip :)

I'm Back

Well, we made it back! There were no bears (that we saw) but we did see some snakes. I think its going to take a few weeks for my back to return to normal and I'm at least 5 lbs. lighter.

It was a great experience but I'm glad to be back to civilization.

Well, did you bring back any interesting pen blank material?

Barney,

We did bring back some Aspen. I don't think its the most interesting wood but the significance of where it came from is the most important thing.

Now I just have to figure out how to get it dry enough to turn.
