Sierra pencil conversion

I am having more than my fair share of problems converting a Sierra pen into a Sierra pencil using a schmitt mechanism. I have been working with the instructions that are in the IAP Library but nothing seems to come together. So before I go through any more sierra's or there twist mechanisms I am hoping someone can offer further advice as to what I may be doing wrong ? It looks a simple process but as usual simple process is NEVER simple

Sierra pencils are available as well as pencils fire most of the sierra clones.
Do a good turn daily!

DO you have an idea of where in the process it seems to go bad for you?

What is going wrong? I have done several of the schmidt conversions without problems.

I was using the instructions from Arizona Silouette.
