Hello. been lurking for several weeks, joined up, here's my first post. I'd like to construct a pen press. I'm looking for ideas. Inspired by the recent post from the knife maker (sorry, I forget his name) I'd like to make one.

This is mine. I like it better than the lever action type, it seems to let you make more delicate adjustments. 3/8" bolt and scraps.

What's a pen press?

Ok, just kidding but I don't press my pen parts together anymore to many have come loose over time. I now file the press fits down and glue the pieces together.
 
Here is mine, it's been copied a few times but I encourage that! [:D]
And yes, it's a very big clamp!

I did upgrade the press blocks and pin knob to Corian a while back as the nylon did not hold up as well as I thought it would. One more tip. On my press block, I had one crack on me right at the hole. What I did was to drill a 1/2" hole and inserted a piece of hardwood dowel. This changes the grain and it's not as prone to crack. I also lined up the hole for the pin and made a shallow 1/4" hole and filled it with shavings and CA so I could see where the pin goes when I raise it up & down.

I call it "the big mother" But seriously though, it's a Carr-Lane model no. CL-250SPC and rated for 800lbs [:D] No problem pressing it with the handle length that comes on it.

Tried them all, Vise, Clamps, Arbor Press, Nut Cracker and Finally this Little Guy from Grizzly... Photo of Press with Spacer Block and then Modified with Turret. This works great, can set the height with bols and spin the Turret to the desired Press Point. Almost Automatic. Thanks to Eagle for his ides on Modifying it...
