I wanted to play with my new laser so I thought I'd give this a try. It's a very easy call to make so I dextrose start with this. I had a 11/2" Oak Dowel laying around so no added expense. I drilled a 1/2" hole then turned the diameter to fit the brass cap. I like using it rubber O rings so you can swap out the reeds and not damage them. Since I'm not used to the laser I engraved it too deep so I filled it with CA. Once I had it level I finished it with CA just like I would a pen. Questions and Comments Welcome.

Really nice, can you tell more about what the call is for specifically and perhaps more detail about how you made it? We're having an outdoor skills day and they might be a nice prize for some of the youth taking part. Trying to get kids outside and away from computers.

I went to my local gun range and picked up several 12 ga. shells. I turned an iron upside down and stood the shells on the iron. When the plastic warmed up I pulled it free from the brass. I used a hammer and a punch to remove the primer. Drill a 1/2" hole and mount on your lathe. I have duck call mandrels but you can do this a few different ways. Cut a tendon just so the brass cap will slide on. Cut a groove for the O ring. Turn the rest of the call to try to match the OD of the brass. The problem here is that the brass is so thin that if you try to get it too close the brass might flex and try to slide up too far. There's a local wood shop that sells the reeds and Hut sells them as well. Have Fun.
