Advice please! I am looking for a band saw to "complete" my woodshop, yes, I know it will NEVER be complete and keep sucking all green stuff from my wallet, but allow me to dream....

I have been very happy with JET tools and am looking at the JET 708901 12 inch saw http://www.amazon.com/JET-708901-JW...8-7517669?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1180571321&sr=8-10 as a good fit for the shop. Any experience with this one? Any suggestions for a non-bank breaking (under $500) model? and no, the little tabletop 9-11" ones are not on my shopping list.

Thanks

Hi all,

Have you looked here: http://www.rd.com/americanwoodworker/toolguide/SS2004_DrillPresses.pdf

A 14" Bandsaw is not that much more expensive, and the Quality of Grizzly products is extremely good. A 14" bandsaw will be easier to get blades and parts for as they are considered a standard size.

JMHO take it for what it is worth

thanks all, Amazon's got my money and I have a promise of the G0555 to be delivered someday....next question...who wants to come over and help set it up?

Good choice! You will not be disappointed in the Grizzly.

I own the 12" Jet, and it is great. The problem is that there are many, MANY times I wish I had a larger capacity. When I am cutting blocks from trees chunks that came off the chain saw, that extra inch makes a big difference. I would guess that somewhere down the road, I will spend some serious $ and upgrade to an 18 or 20 inch band saw. When I do, it will be the Grizzly. But........not before I upgrade to a Powermatic lathe. Me thinketh that will be a couple of years..........[xx(]

Best wishes,

My new toy and my favorite kid! and yes, he did a lot of the assembly!

Lucky I don't live near the showroom, now I want a new planer!

I had the Jet 12" bandsaw and I could not say enough good about it. It handled everything I ever asked it to do. Adjustements and blade changes were easy. Just a great tool. I did sell it and I bought a Grizzly G0555 I found locally and I can pretty much say the same thing about it. Great saw. I have a huge aversion to paying shipping costs so if I had not found a local G0555 I'd still have the Jet 12".

Aye the G0555 is a great bandsaw. Yes I have one, got it about 3 years ago. I wouldnt trade it out right now. it has done everything I have put at it. And I did get the extension block for mine as well.

Great saw!

I second trhe vote for the Powermatic with the riser. LOL,

You will be happy with your 12" for a good while. Just remeber, it is made to cut curves, It is NOT made to resaw. That would just disappoint you.

Congrats on the new saw. One bit of advice...if you think you will ever want the extra capacity that a riser block will provide, go ahead and get it now before you invest a money in blades that will be too small once you do add it.

I had a Rigid 14" and bought a bunch of blades for it, then decided to add the riser block. Some of the blades had not even been used. I finally sold the saw and bought a Rikon 18" and still had all the new blades that were too small so the new owner got the saw and a bunch of new, worthless, blades! And yes, he did know they were too short but he wanted them anyway. Probably sold them to recover some of his cost.
