So i was messing around using some of these shop towels to apply CA. It works pretty well - not as absorbent as a paper towel. They will randomly 'react' with the CA - Get really hot and lightly smoke. Not like fire smoke, but some kind of smoke from the reaction. I was wondering if anyone knew what caused that??

:question::question:

shop towels are of these variety:

Most i could find Google wise is that cotton will combust if you put super glue on it. I guess that would explain it :). I thought it was weird that it doesn't seem to do it all the time...maybe just the amount of glue i'm dumping on...

Jeff, I have been using these kinds of shop towels for several years with good results. I have found that the towel will heat up and lightly smoke more so if you are using an accelerator. I have been able to eliminate the excessive heat issue by not flipping the same folded pad section over to use the opposite side. When that technique is used, it seems to concentrate the amount of residual CA and accelerator in that one spot, and the heat will build up. I hope this comment may help.

Yeah it is kind of pricey versus a paper towel - but i roll it up and cut it and fold it over and get more out of a small piece than i would a paper towel - since the paper towel just absorbs it up. Plus I lose less CA into the towel. I feel like those two factors negate some of the cost. I assume i can find those towels cheaper elsewhere, but like i say, just messing around and was using what I had.

Thanks Bill - that's a good tip. I am folding it over and using accelerator, so i'll try to make bigger folds and alternate the ends.

For years I've used paper towels for CA. Seems that technique is more important than brand. Whatever shows up from Costco ends up in the shop.

I've used the Scott Towels in a box for several years and many pens.
I fold the towel into 1/4 the width.
There's a lot of wasted CA that soaks into the towel but I've never been able to use the plastic parts bags or closed foam and get good results.
