The braided copper blanks are vertically cast on sierra tubes.

The braided carbon fiber blanks are vertically cast on sierra tubes.

The braided stainless-steel blanks are vertically cast on sierra tubes.

The denim blanks are vertically cast on sierra tubes.

The colorwood blanks are cut from a 12x12x4 inch block of Italian colorwood. This pattern has been discontinued by the manufacturer, so I am limited to stock on hand. Size is 3/4 x 3/4 x 6.

The shop-made fordite is made of approximately 90 layers of powder-coat paint. Each layer must be flowed out (melted) before the next layer can be applied. They are made in block of 6 or 7 and cut apart. They are available in 3/4" and 15/16" sizes. Orders for the 15/16" size may be delayed while I make more of them. Length is approximately 5 3/4 inches.

I'm a big fan of fordite...but, more of the "Detroit Agate" variety with all the intricate and detailed swirls, curls, and other interesting complexity. Most of the available fordite these days is just layered material... I'm curious, is creating an "agate" type of fordite artificially possible? Occasionally I can find tiny little chunks of it, which is usually sold for jewelry making purposes, and rarely in enough volume to make a useful pen blank. It would be interesting if it could be made artificially, without it just being flat layers of paint.

The fordite I make is layered but the layers are not uniform in thickness since I am sprinkling the powder in the mold. If you cut through it parallel to the layers, you will expose multiple layers of the powder coat paint. Also, the powder is made of finely ground epoxy so the end result is not brittle but turns like epoxy.
