Just heard from a member that they have not received a package that we sent on Sept. 19th (6 weeks ago) and had another member that took 5 weeks before they got their package.
Has anyone else had problems shipping to South Africa?

Heck I am not sure about SA but it some times takes that long for me to get stuff from you guy's to Canada.

Lin.

No experience with SA but this sounds like a scenario at work. I am a network Engineer and sometimes I have to relboot Routers and Switches for upgrades to take effect. Typically they dont come up until you start to panic and are ready to make phone calls. Sounds like your there so they should show pretty soon.....I hope

I have made multiple shipments to South Africa from Canada. Some packages took as long as 12 weeks, others got there after 4 weeks. Good thing is everything arrived "eventually".

Well now let me jump in here and add my 3 cents worth.

I have been shipping from all over the world to SA and I get on average about 70% of my parcels.

I have had quite a few parcels not arrive. Now there can be many reasons for this but throw customs away. They can hold parcels for three to four weeks before sending them on.

If the parcel hasn't arrived after 8 weeks, it aint going to arrive!

Give it another 2 weeks at least Roy, then consider it a thing of the past.

Do you perhaps have a tracking number? If you do, I have a friend who may be able to help.

Terry, thanks for the offer of help, I do have a tracking #, sent it to the recipient and if the package doesn't arrive in a few more weeks I'll have you try to track it.

Hi, I get stuff from: Wood of one kind, Wood'n'Whimsies, Craft Supplies, Johnny Cnc, Woodcraft, Bear tooth woods. Delivery can vary from 2 weeks to 4 months from USA. Our service is ****. Can take 4 days to go 100 km. Do not worry it will get there eventually. Do not rely on tracking. I have had a parcel delivered over 3 weeks ago and acording to them it is still in a depot 200km away. "efficiency is the word" Phil

Roy,
Although not the same issue it's related.
Just to let you know the last couple of orders I got from you, the packaging looked like it had been drug under someone's foot from OK to TN. Not your fault at all and thankfully everything inside was fine. I like the box packaging for the nibs too :)

I've gotten packages from all over the world sent through the mail. I lived in a little community (To small to call it a town) at the time and the post office ladies really liked seeing the stamps and condition of the packages. Whenever I got something from Canada, especially BC, I was reminded of how great the USPS really was. We have yet to receive a package from BC that did not look like it was used as a hockey puck.

Bill, is there anything I can do packaging wise to help this situation? Yes the nib box's are neat.

Roy,

Short of using boxes I don't think so. It may have just been a bad day at the sorting facility but you could see clear boot marks on the packaging. It was unusual enough that I wanted to mention it to you. It may have even happened here in Memphis. Other orders I've recieved from you were all fine.

Shipping to S.A.

The short answer is Yes. S.A. is fairly risky, the 1st package I ever sent there never made it. I ship there now only on the condition that the buyer assumes responsibility as soon as the package leaves the USA.

The delay is nearly always on your side of the border. I have had packages leave the USA in 2 days and not get delivered in Canada for 2 weeks.

neither did the one you sent me Leroy but thats the risk we take living in this banana republic in the south of Africa

they recently ( a few years back) did an exposè on the post office with some hidden cameras and you actually saw post office workers get into the containers filled with post and rip them open collecting the spoils of the crime. Such a shame!!!

Only problem I ever had shipping to South Africa... I was shipping a few thousand pounds of oil field explosives... I had no problem getting the explosives into Jo'burg, but they wouldn't let me ship in the det cord... which made the explosives totally useless... finally had to ship the cord into Namibia and the consignee smuggled it into S.A....:mad::beauty:

That's close to 100% of my shipments that didn't make it all the way....

My wife is a teacher for world bible school correspondence courses and the mail into parts of Africa is problematic. She has received responses back from some areas more than a year after she sent the lessons.

I don't doubt that for a min LeRoy, I have always said that out postal system doesn't hold a candle to yours and one that really stands out is FLAT RATE shipping. If Canada Post was to get on board with that, we would be a lot father ahead for starters.
