I posted about casting issues last week, so I figured the finished product should be shown.
Katalox shift knob with cast logo for my friend's youtube channel. I machined the aluminum base and set nut that will hold the boot up and allow him to clock the logo orientation correctly. The knob is 3" tall and 2.25" at the widest. Base is 1.25". This is for a 2008 Subaru Forester XT.
With the right light, you can still see the rings from my initial casting mistake, but in person they are fairly innocuous. The wood was a little more wet that I realized when I first turned this and ended up splitting a bit on each side of the logo. Knowing how dark katalox gets, I chose to fill the splits and still finish this. Considering all of the issues I've had with this project, I am chalking it up to procrastination and rushing my work.
His birthday is tomorrow, and I didn't really start this til last week. Oh well. My therapist will be happy that I am accepting flaws instead of trashing so many hours of work lol.
