shell casing pens

I would like to make a couple pens for some friends out of spen shell casings. I don't know what caliber of shell and what inserts that I have to use for them. I talked to a gentleman at Silver Dollar City earlier this month that was making pens but I didn't catch what supplies were needed. Any help would be helpful. Thank you very much for any help.
