I checked with the Rockler in Tukwila and they said we could use their "classroom" most Saturdays after 1:00 or Sundays 11:00 to 4:00.

So, anyone have a preferred date for our next meeting?

How about August 7th

How about Sunday, August 7th?

Topics? Here are some ideas (assuming we have someone for each):
  • Sharpening
  • Bottle Stoppers
  • New Kits
  • Closed End turning
  • Other?
I have plenty of Whisky barrel wood that I'll bring to share...

Aug 7 sounds good to me. Have not been an active turner for month, spending too much time in hospital or building up to go back in. Maybe this would encourage me to get started again.

I will confirm the meeting space for the 7th.

Any suggestions for additional topics? Any volunteers to cover these or any other topics?

On the closed end discussion, does anyone have a pin chuck? I have some other closed end "mandrels", but it would be good to talk through/work with a variety of approaches.

make sure photos are posted so I know you all are still turning things and not just meeting over at the cheese cake factory.... not that there would be anything wrong with a meeting there.

OK,

We are confirmed with Rockler in Tukwila for 1:00 on August 7th.

I will bring stuff to show a couple of different options for closed end turning, but I welcome additional ideas for other topics.

Hi,
This will be my first meeting and i was wondering if we are to bring anything, blanks, pens to trade anything like that?

I'm pretty new and looking forward to the closed end learning.

Jorge,

We have only had a few meetings, so far, and we're still making the rules up. There are no particular requirements, but folks have generally brought some blanks to trade or give away and some of their work to show off. Also, please bring your ideas of things you'd like to talk about/see/do.

I look forward to seeing everyone that can make it tomorrow.

Dick - maybe we need to arrange a meeting in your neck of the woods.

August meeting

Just a short note to thank you for the great meeting today. I enjoyed meeting all the folks.
And a big thank you to Rockler for offering the meeting space for us.
I will post some photos later today.

Hey guys,
It was nice to meet all of you and share in the wealth of your knowledge.

This is how the pen turned out. I added an acrylic center and used a rhodium nib. Adding the centerband forced me to turn it down a little more because it was wobbly after putting it in my drill chuck. Overall I learned a lot and and have lots of new ideas.

Thanks
Jorge
