Does anyone know of a source for these? I'm thinking about purple heart, bronze star, Vietnam service, etc. Someday I might attempt to make them but it would be nice if some were readymade.

Well here's a few. Not exactly what I was looking for though. When I grow up I may have to make my own. I really wanted CV stripes all the way around the blank and I think the color would be sharper with acrylic.

Message seamus7227 on Instagram. He has mounted real Subdued (BDU) rank and wing insignia for me in the past. He may be able to help you out.

Mark Koster (Marko50) has some great military blanks, including the Purple Heart. All cast in alumilite.

Glad you mentioned this company. I've never heard of them but they've got some really nice looking blanks. Thanks for sharing their name.

If you would care to make your own, they can be done with thread wrappings. Here is one that I made, it is the Combat Action Ribbon on a Comfort Pen.

There is an article in the library giving some instruction on wrapping blanks, using the lathe to hold the tubes while winding on the thread. I can also give you more information on the widths of the bands on the ribbons. Basically, you go to this site (https://web.archive.org/web/20060411072120/http://www.tioh.hqda.pentagon.mil/), which is the department of the Army that designs the awards. They give information on the widths of the bands and the colors to use.

Contact me if you would like more information.

I really like that idea. What kind of thread and do you inset the thread to match the level of the wood? Then just CA over the thread or some kind of resin?
