Second Bespoke, First Time on a Metal Lathe, + Jim Hinze!

I got to spend some quality time with THE Jim Hinze, my friend and mentor in penmaking. I was clueless when it came to how a machinist's lathe worked so Jim gave me a crash course and walked me through making a pen on one. He made one himself so I could watch/learn and then let me make my own.

Not only is he a great pen maker but Jim is a phenomenal teacher. Generous with his knowledge, patient with his student, and kind in his approach. If you ever get the opportunity to take a class with him, do not hesitate.

Jim's work and instructions are great (a few pens I ordered from him came in yesterday!). Pleasure meeting you at SoCal Turners this summer too. Nice pen

Jim does great anodizing work on nibs and clips for his pens and was kind enough to give me a nib that matched the blank
