Was shown this at a seminar... Urchin shells are Alfonso Sea Urchins from Deltona Seashells (3-4" are $0.95 ea). The website is Deltona Seashells & Gifts - HOME The come with some laquer already on them. I added a few more coats just to give them a little more strength. None (I bought $50 worth shipped of various sized ... going to do some ornaments too out of smaller ones) were broken in shipping (come in a HUGE box). Can't say the same about my handling them.

The wood was scraps I had in the box.

Just something different to put on the table at shows... kind of like the wine cork keyrings from here.

Interesting. I've done the urchin ornaments and they are fun. You might try a buckeye for the stems to match the colors closer. Thanks for showing.

Nice. I was just looking into making some ornaments this year out of the urchin shells. I was in process of looking for a source (I'm not paying 5 bucks a shell at the turning websites). I found some better prices for shells on feebay but going to check out your link as well.
