Went to a local cigar store and scored bigtime! I went there to look for boxes and anything else useful for making cigar label pens. Walked in and they had a small display of boxes for sale, not a big selection and mostly the cardboard kind. Then I ended up talking with the owner about what I what I was looking for and what I was planning on doing with them. Well...it's a good thing the owner doesn't throw anything away! I showed her some of my work and what I had planned and she goes "wait here just a sec...I've got some stuff in the back you'd like better than what I've got sitting out". Man did she have the good stuff hidden! She had all the good solid wood boxes, boxes of spanish cedar blanks and those plastic trays all in the back. Once it was all said and done she charged me $20 for ALL of this! She told me to come back if I needed more and so when I do I think I'll have a nice thank you pen to take with me!

I thought this was cool, I'll have to come up with something to incorporate this into:

Great score.

Looks like you need to give her a cigar replica. Maybe it will get your foot in the door to place other pens there on consignment.

Next time hit her up for cigar bands. Maybe she's got some or can save you some.

Holy smokes!! : ) I love cigar boxes. That Oliva box is just perfect! There is a local cigar shop in my town and I am working a deal with the guy for one of my cigar illusion pens. He has certainly not been as generous as she has been yet. You've really come across a jackpot and great source for boxes. I hope she gets some nice pens out of the exchanges. That's a nice channel to keep open. Congrats! I'm going to be asking about Oliva boxes now. Thanks for the pics and the awesome story.

I am confused. Cool boxes. Do you cut them up for blanks? What about the lettering?

I get boxes from my local shop also, $1 a box and the first time I found what I thought looked to be a pen blank in one. Turns out it is Spanish cedar put in the box to aid in humidity control. I went back some time later and asked about it and the guy behind the counter gave me a stack of them that they keep because some aficionados use them to lite up with. Spanish cedar turns easy and often has a deep red hue that makes beautiful pen but the grain is rather straight.

Hey, Those are pretty cool. What are you planning to do with them? :-)

I think I might know where you can get some ideas and maybe even an example or two.

Nice Haul. Those Perdomo boxes are hard to come by, and make nice displays or even a fitted presentation box for a single pen and accessories, or a set. I've done some similar ones with a pair of grooves for pens, and a closed compartment for ink cartridges, accessories, ect.
