A woodworker friend of mine is tracking info on the SawStop - activations, cause, cost to get restarted.
I do not think he is involved in any litigation but he may be involved in legislation.
If you have any such info and want to pass it to me (via PM) I will only relay the info and the state, no names or other contact info.
The info he has so far is that inadvertant activations greatly exceed actual skin contact. 57 to 8. Average cost is about $150.
It might also be good to list whether is was a contractor SS or a cabinet SS.

There has been litigation going on for years on the SS. I basically boils down to this (My take on it) The inventor of the SS wants congress to pass laws making his technology the standard for all table saws sold in America.

In other words he wants to make it so that the average person can no longer afford to buy a table saw for home shop use, and at the same time making him rich to no end.

The SS is a good saw and the technology is good, but he's not pushing it to help out people, he's pushing it to line his pocket.

There's been research to how much the actual technology cost, and it doesn't justify saws costing 2-3-4k, it just he wants that much.

I guess it all depends on how much fingers are worth. But I agree that they are very expensive and would be out of reach of most home shops.

When do we take responsibility for ourselves? I could have bought a SS when I bought my Rigid. I looked at many other saws before plunking down the cash for my saw. I decided that I could buy the Rigid and several other tools that would be very helpful in my shop or the SS. I decided against the SS and made the other purchases. My saw came with a reasonably good upper guard, a good rising riving knife would have been very nice, but that was not an option then. Yes, I do know where my upper guard is, occasionally it is even where it belongs. There or not, if I ever am injured by my tools, I know just who the fool was that caused the injury and it will not be the tool maker unless one of their things break and hurt me. I am not infallible and I have the scars to show it.

If I were running a production shop, most likely all my saws would be so equipped. Nothing can be made idiot proof. Over the past many years, idiots have proven to my satisfaction that they are smarter than most everyone else.

This thing by the SS maker is similar to ..... No I can't go there! The mods would be working on me again. Time to shut up and sign off on this.

Danny, I agree with you 100%.
He is also a lawyer, he assists in those cases against saws that do not have his system.

If he assists against the saws that do not have a saw stop, he is working on the process of making it difficult for most people to afford a table saw. Most accidents involving a table saw are due to careless handling or negligence. I have my fathers table saw, that he used constantly he never even came close to an injury & he was totally blind. He was careful, thought about what he was doing and had no problems. He was 81 when he died had all ten fingers. As was stated earlier the inventor is out to get laws pasted only to line his pockets at the expense of every one else.

not sure about much else, but I love my cabinet SS.
And I love my Hitachi, and the jointer, and the planer, and misc other tools I bought for the same amount I could have spent on a SS.

Nothing wrong with the SS but I see the need in production shops where your not in control of what others are doing, but just don't see the need to force something on people just to line my pockets. Plus I don't cut that many hotdogs.

I have 3 patents to my name for medical products I designed and built to help a good friend of mine who is a doctor, I never asked for anything, and these products continue to help those that need them to this day.

I'm just not wired that way, guess thats why I'm not rich.... well rich with money, Im rich in other ways.
