My 6 year old daughter decided it was time for her to try her hand at pen turning. We made some practice cuts on some scrap wood to get the feel of things..She drilled the blanks and glued in the tubes..She made all of the cuts herself (with my hands about an inch from hers)She sanded and applyed the finish..and worked the vice for the assembly. She cant wait for my next day off so she can make a key chain(6yr olds really need keychains)

That's a heck of a lot nicer than MY first pen! (In my defense, your hands weren't "about an inch above" mine at the time....had they been, you probably would've been tempted to smack me on the back of the head. I don't respond well to that, and things coulda got ugly.) Better that you just work with your daughter. She's obviously a quick study, and she also obviously has a very good--and I'm betting, a very PROUD!!!--instructor. GREAT JOB, BOTH OF YOU!!!!

Harold,

I think I can see the smile[:D]on you face from here. A family that turns together...well you know.

Harold,

I highly recommend considering a lathe for her upcoming 7th birthday [}:)][:D]

Way to go Savannah! I have made probably 50 pens by now and yours looks better than any of mine [:)]

very cool! i love the look of purpleheart, a fine choice for her first pen...
absolutely crushes my first attempt!

now she's hooked and you'll never see your lathe again! [;)]

Wow. Her first attempt is light years ahead of my first. Of course, I was flying blind and she had some pretty good instruction.

Savannah very nice. you did a great job. Won't be long and you can show dad a thing or two. Keep it up you did wonderful

Excellent job, Ms. Savannah. When you get your own lathe - hint, hint, Dad, I'm quite sure you will be off and having a blast like the rest of us do.

Congratulations to the two of you for a job well done. [:D]
