In a discussion of a seasoned bowl turner in my area he gave me a tip that I am passing on. Don't know how many of you already use this but here it is. To keep your sand paper from getting too hot and possibly burning your work (whether pens, bowls, stoppers or whatever) he uses a piece of felt on the back of the paper. The felt is the backing material that they use under carpets. He says this absorbs the heat and keeps the wood from scorching. You can also fold this with the sand paper on top to get into the indentions in your designs. Made sense to me! Well, this is your lucky tip for the day, back to the lathe tomorrow!
