Some time ago, I got a 1" inertia sander from Sorby for their microtools, and recently tried it on some pen projects. It does a great job of sanding, and doesn't leave cross grain scratches on the blanks. I am really terrible at leaving these on my blanks, and this was an agreeable surprise. Obviously this can only be used on reasonably straight profiles, but it does a great job there.
Has anyone else tried using an inertia sander on pens? I don't think power sanding would be appropriate, you would sand through the wood almost instantly, but this unpowered sander works fine for me.
Please let me know your thoughts on this.
